Horseback Riding in Madison County

Horseback riding in New York is fun for couples and the entire family. And here in Madison County we’ve got plenty of public horseback riding trails and dynamic horseback riding games to enjoy.

Saddle up and hit the trails at Charles E. Baker State Forest. This 9,400-acre property, combined with Brookfield Railroad and Beaver Creek State Forests, contains 130 miles of connected trails that are open for horseback riding. The assembly and camping area can accommodate campers and approximately 150 horses with covered tie stalls and stallion box stalls. Plus, there is a pavilion, water and picnicking facilities. If you’re looking to take in a competition, you’re in luck. Madison County is home to two colleges that host regular meets. Cazenovia College fields Hunter Seat, Western and Dressage riders and Morrisville State College is home to Western Equestrian riding and Hunter Seat equestrian teams.

And for an event like no other, check out the Lorenzo Driving Competition each July. This carriage driving competition features tests of skill, timing and style.
