Overview
Matthew Urtz was appointed the Madison County Historian in April of 2010.
Urtz’s articles have been published in multiple local and regional newspapers and magazines. He presents to local community and historical groups, museums, schools and private organizations on local history upon request.
Additionally, the historian organizes and hosts special events, including training classes for local institutions, historians and others a few times a year. In October, he coordinates Madison County's annual Archives Day, which celebrates documents stored in the Madison County Archives.
The historian also actively collects documents pertaining to the county's history for future use.
