In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re proudly celebrating the extraordinary women who have helped shape Madison County. For the first time ever, women boxers will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, right here in “Boxing’s Hometown” of Canastota.
This special event is being called the “Once In a Lifetime” International Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend Induction Trilogy. Three induction classes of women boxers will all be inducted together, June 9-12, 2022.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 had forced the cancellation of the first two classes of women boxers, in 2020 and in 2021. With the two previous classes now being inducted alongside the Class of 2022, the Hall of Fame Weekend Induction Trilogy promises to be an amazing event.
The International Boxing Hall of Fame has created two categories to honor women boxers. The Trailblazer category is for nominees whose last contest came no later than 1988. The Modern category is for nominees whose last contest came no sooner than 1989, and who have been retired for at least 3 years.

The Class of 2020, the very first class of women ever announced, includes Barbara Buttrick in the Trailblazer category, as well as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” Christy Martin and “The Dutch Destroyer” Lucia Rijker in the Modern category.
The Class of 2021 includes Laila Ali and Ann Wolfe in the Modern category, as well as “Lady Tyger” Marian Trimiar and Jackie Tonawanda (posthumously) in the Trailblazer category.
The Class of 2022 includes “Dangerous Lady” Regina Halmich and “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holly Holm, both in the Modern category.
