Nature-walk a 5-mile Chenango Canal Trail along the waters of the Chenango Canal that runs from Woodman’s Pond, (entrance on Woodman’s Road, off of Rt. 46 in Town of Eaton, near Rt. 12B), to the corner of Elm Street and Canal Road, north of Bouckville. The Chenango Canal is a year-round designated trout fishing stream, using artificial lures only. Brown and Brook Trout are stocked by the Madison Central School and Dept.of NYS Environmental Conservation. Sight blue heron, red-tail hawks, beaver, muskrat, ducks, geese and song birds, among other animals in their natural habitat. Other entrances include the corner of Rt. 46 and Canal Road, stairways on Canal Road near the Bouckville Mill and across from the Bouckville Antique Center, and the corner of Canal Rd. and Elm Street in Bouckville. Oneida Lake is a remnant of Lake Iroquois, a huge body of water that formed nearly 12,000 years ago when, as the ice age ended, a glacier dammed the St. Lawrence River flooding much of Central New York. Excellent fishing, sailing, boating, ice fishing and snowmobiling can be found in or around the lake. Public and private boat launches, marinas and dockage, boat rentals, gas, bait, tackle, fishing derbies, ice fishing shanty rentals and guides available. Connects to the cities of Albany, Utica, Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, Oswego and points beyond via the NYS Canal System.

Hidden Harbor offers four newly constructed 400 square foot vacation units available for nightly or weekly rental year round. Each unit is equipped with an efficiency kitchen, a full bath, cable TV, gas grill, two full sized beds and baseboard heat for the winter months. A fish cleaning station is also available along with boat slips and fishing boat rentals.

Helen L. McNitt State Park was established in 1999 as a gift of 133 acres of land, including about 1300 feet of shoreline. In 2008 a parking lot was established along with a site to launch canoes, kayaks and small portable rowboats.

The 44 acre Stoney Pond was constructed in the late 1950’s to provide wildlife habitat. Populated with largemouth bass and panfish, it is home to blue herons, Canada geese, mallard ducks and other waterfowl. A parking area and boat launching ramp is located on the pond. No gas powered motors are permitted. A day use area is located adjacent to the ramp.
