Saturday, June 9 the 77th NY Regimental Balladeers return to Peterboro for the annual Civil War Weekend to perform three programs. The Balladeers provide afternoon music sessions at the encampment on the green at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. At 8 pm at the Smithfield Community Center in Peterboro, the Balladeers will present Hard Times Come Again No More: America's Heart Songs, a special concert featuring Aaron Copland's 1942 "Lincoln Portrait" to commemorate the drafting of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation in 1862. A tribute to the U.S. Cavalry includes She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Girl I Left Behind, Fort Apache and Rio Grande. The Non-Commissioned Officer's Ball Fiddle Medley, St. Patrick's Day in the Morning, Garry Owen and Haste to the Wedding may have the audience dancing in the aisles. The Balladeers will perform a special piece titled Roll Call, which recalls the heroism of the 79th NYS Militia Volunteers. The concert will conclude with the annual playing of Auld Lang Syne to remember the sacrifices of all veterans. Admission is ten dollars at the door. This program is made possible, in part, with funds from the New York Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant Program, a state agency, and the Cultural Resources Council, a Regional Arts Council.
