9—10 Second Annual CNY Fiber Festival comes to Bouckville

If you have a passion for things handmade, for historical and traditional arts, for animals, for unusual and beautiful products, for learning new skills, or for supporting local agriculture and artisans, then you will want to set aside the weekend of June 9th and 10th. CNY Fiber Artists & Producers, a group dedicated to supporting fiber farmers and artists and to encouraging participation in and appreciation of fiber arts, will hold its second Fiber Festival at Butternut Hill Campground on Route 20 in Bouckville. The event will feature spinning, felting, and weaving demonstrations that will be provided by guilds and vendors, along with a Sheep to Shawl exhibition, a presentation on historical looms, sheep shearing, fiber animal tours, and a demonstration of reeling silk from cocoons. A “knitting doctor” will be on hand to help you salvage that project you thought to be hopeless, and children will have a tent full of activities to explore. Look for a “yarn splash” - an art installation using colorful displays of felted, knitted, or crocheted squares – along Route 20 in advance of the event.

There will be workshops in knitting, spinning, dyeing, felting, and tatting, and more than 50 vendors will offer raw fleece, hand-spun and hand-dyed yarn, pelts, kits, spinning wheels, baskets, spindles, looms, and hand-spun, hand-knitted, and hand-felted products. You can read about the workshops and the vendors on the website, www.cnyfiber.org. Although the quota for fiber vendors has been filled, a few spaces are still available for local farmers who have specialty food products or other products that might fit in well. Please contact Pamela.Haendle@bnymellon.com if you are interested in participating or would like more information about the event.

The festival runs from 10:00 to 5:00 each day, and costs $5 for adults. Children under 12 are free, and free parking is available.
